A Stud horse or sometimes referred to as Stallion is a male horse that has not been gelded. A Stud is a horse that is primarily used by breeders. If you are looking for a Stud for breeding purposes you will want to take in several factors when you look for a horse for sale. They include pedigree, temperament, size, color, build and age of the Stallion. These factors will determine the price of the horse for sale that you are considering purchasing. If you are looking to raise horses that are a certain color you will want to look for a horse for sale that is homozygous or guaranteed to throw a particular color.

It is not only important to purchase the perfect Stud prospect but also to breed him to an excellent mare. After breeding to the mare of your choice, once bred in normal circumstances she will carry the foal 11 months. Horse breeders will be the first to tell you, that even with the perfect stud and mare there are not 100% guarantees what your colt will be, but the chances of getting a good baby are much better.
