Horse Transportation

When you are looking for a horse for sale you need to keep in mind that you are going to need to transport it at least once, if only when you take it home or to a boarding facility that you may plan to board at. This leaves you some options.

There are many reliable horse transporting companies that will not only transport your horse a short distance but will also transport them across country for you or even over seas if needed.  There are horse transporting websites available to you where you can request bids for shipping your horse. There are many that offer this service to you free. Once you complete you request within 24 hours you will normally begin to receive bids from transporters. You will be contacted by each transporter individually. This is a good time to request references. Also ask to see pictures of the trailer that they will be transporting your horse in. Don't be afraid to ask questions. They will be responsible for your new horse.

Another option is to purchase your own horse trailer depending on how much you plan to haul your horse. It is always more convenient to own your own but it also depends on your budget. When considering purchasing a horse trailer you must first decide what you plan to pull it with. This will determine the size trailer that you will be able to pull.

Horse trailers come in all sizes. The two most popular types of trailers are steel and aluminum. The aluminum trailer is the most desired but is also the most expensive. There are trailers that are fully enclosed. There are also trailers with open sides that are generally referred to as stock trailers. Many trailers come with what are called drop down windows and also have drop down windows on the rear side. Some just have slide windows. No matter what type of windows that the trailer has just make certain that it has plenty. Vents are also very important. In the hot summer months it is important that your horse gets plenty of air. Horse trailers come with different types of floors. Usually your trailer will have either a wood floor or an aluminum floor. No matter what kind of floor that it has, be certain that it has a good one. There is nothing more dangerous than loading your horse into a trailer with a bad floor with the danger of him falling through. This can be disastrous.

Many factors may determine the horse trailer that you purchase such as how many horses that you plan to haul, the size of the vehicle pulling it and your budget. You may want a basic two horse which usually has a straight load, a small tack area under the nose for your saddle and tack and it may or may not come with a loading ramp. This is generally a light weight trailer that can be pulled with most vehicles. When considering purchasing a two horse be certain to find out from the person that you are purchasing your horse from whether they will load in a two horse. Some horses seem to feel claustrophobic when asked to get into such a small area and are hard to load. Others will not back off a trailer and many of these small trailers do not offer room for your horse to be turned around and walked off.

Trailers today offer so many different options that were not available years ago. Many have beautiful living quarters in them that are as comfortable as being at home. Many have air conditioning and heat. Built in generators are very common. They have a full bathroom with shower, televisions, vcr, microwave, stove, refrigerator and the options are endless. They come straight load, reverse load and slant load. Many have feed mangers.Tack rooms come in the rear of the trailer. They also come as mid-tacks. You can spend as little or as much as you want depending on how much you plan to use your new trailer and what you plan to use it for.

When you are looking for a horse for sale planning transportation is a very important step in the process. Whether you purchase a used horse trailer or a new one, be certain what ever you choose, it is safe and comfortable for your horse. Remember that your horse depends on you for their safety. If you can not afford to purchase a safe trailer consider having someone transport your horse and purchase a trailer later down the road when it fits into your budget.
